Shiatsu – Japanese Holistic Bodywork Therapy

Monday 3.30-7.00pm with Nick Neter

Therapy description & Price

Shiatsu is a holistic Japanese bodywork therapy that has its roots in traditional East Asian medicine, Amna massage and acupressure. Shiatsu uses the power of touch with both light and strong pressure using fingers, hands, forearms, sometimes elbows and knees, as well as a wide variety of stretches and rotations as in Thai massage, working through the acupoints and channels, to encourage the balanced free flow of energy throughout the body.

Shiatsu is a beautiful, sensitive and adaptive practice. By applying sensitive, mindful, static touch with thumbs, fingers and palms, Shiatsu affects the functioning of the nervous, circulatory and respiratory systems, thus supporting the body’s innate self-healing abilities and promoting a sense of relaxation and wellbeing.

Originating in Japan, Shiatsu has grown internationally since the 1970’s. It is an evolving form of bodywork, incorporating influences from both East Asian Medicine and Western medicine and therapies.

It supports the body’s own deep wisdom to seek balance. Shiatsu offers support in our day-to-day wellness along with support through times of crisis and imposed change, whether that comes though change of relationships, work, location or imposed change to our health.

Deeply relaxing and revitalising, Shiatsu can benefit a wide range of conditions. Shiatsu is received fully clothed and usually takes place on a futon on the ground though can be adapted to suit the receiver.

 Investment: First session  75 mins – £60

                     Thereafter       60 mins – £55 once a month

Occasionally  60 mins – £50 more than once a month

I have been studying and working with Shiatsu since 1993. I enrolled at Zen School of Shiatsu in London in 1996 and completed my professional training at the Shiatsu College, Hastings in 2004. I now work at the Yogalife Studio, St Lukes, Stone Cross, the Natural Fitness Centre and Sweetapple Studio in Eastbourne. I also run monthly donation-based Shiatsu clinics at various locations in and around Eastbourne.  In 2011 I completed a B’Sc Hons. at the University of Brighton in Multidisciplinary Healthcare where I carried out research into the effects of Shiatsu on back pain.

Qigong has been part of my Shiatsu practice since 1995, being an integral part of our Shiatsu training. In 2013 I completed my Diploma of Qigong Teaching with the Shiatsu College, Hastings and run regular classes in and around Eastbourne. I have taught Qigong at both St Wilfrids and St Michaels Hospice and the Hellingly Centre.

In 2014 I co-founded and helped to build the Well Being Centre near Eastbourne, an environmentally friendly and holistic health centre for complementary and transformative healing work, in all its forms, on the edge of Pevensey marshes. This was born out of my passion for supporting and promoting complementary health and wellbeing locally that is accessible for all. I have also enjoyed sharing Shiatsu and teaching Qigong at numerous festivals over the years, including Glastonbury, Elderflower Fields and Sun and Moon Festivals and have been fortunate enough to co-organise Retreats in Greece every year for the past 10 years.
